Data Center Management Channel Partner Solutions (DCCPSOLN) 8/1/93
Welcome to the Data Center Management Channel Partner Solutions Hotline.
This hotline will be updated as necessary to reflect any new additions to
GSY's data center management channel partners.
The hotline is organized in three sections. The first section
(organinzed by topic) describes the functional area of system management,
with the associated product and company names. The second section (listed
alphabetically by company) describes how to get more information on a
particular product. Whereever possible, worldwide distributors are listed for
each of the comapnies in this section. The third section provides
brief descriptions of each of the products. For more information on
these solutions, you can either contact the company directly, or send a DESK
message to Nancy Twombly, GSY VAB Marketing. Please state the specific
solution(s) you are interested in getting more information on; copies of
datasheets will be mailed within four weeks.

Brief Product Description (Organized by Functional Area)
Accounting/Chargeback
AIM Technology-Resource Accounting
AIM Resource Accounting monitors UNIX resources usage by users, groups of
users, and projects. This product allocates system resource charges to
distinctive user groups, and generates charge statements. In addition, it
provides various levels of usage reports on information such as user,
resource, and time period.
Computer Associates CA-UNICENTER
CA-UNICENTER's resource accounting and chargeback functions, which are based
on relational database technology, provide flexible and comprehensive tools
for performing chargeback of Unix system resource consumption. Facilities
include the ability to analyze collected accounting data, define accounting
structures, rate specifications and budgets, and perform charge inquiry. The
open-ended nature of the relational database enables information from any
source to be quickly and easily incorporated into the system cost accounting
process. The extensive reporting facilities provide management with a clear
picture of when, what and who is consuming computer resources.
GEJAC, Inc. ARSAP
ARSAP is a system accounting software product that performs a wide range
of data center management functions such as resource management, charge-
back, departmental accounting, project accounting, and disk space management
for all HP-UX and Apollo systems. ARSAP tracks all system resources including
connect time, seat time, bio, cio, uucp, memeory, disk space, logins, and
printed pages. ARSAP also tracks individual software packages showing
who is using the package, how often, on which system, and the amount of
system resources used by the package.
OCS Chargeback-UX
The Chargeback resource management and billing system automates the process
of compiling and tracking usage information for data center resources.
Chargeback-UX allows you to create accounts of computer users, similar to a
chart of accounts in financial accounting systems, and assign flexible price
schedules to individual accounts or groups of accounts. Chargeback-UX collects
and maintains usage data for all networked machines and resources in your
data center. You can also import database logfile information from popular
databases. With Chargeback-UX, you can define and maintain price schedules for
resources, and bill for their use. You can define billing rates for CPU
time, system connect time, print output, desk sector usage, and command usage.
SCH Resource Accounting
Resource Accounting and chargeback system can be used by system administrators
to identify problem programs and heavy system resource users, track costs
and efficiencies, and generate user-defined reports. The two main functions
are data collection/storage and data retrieval/reporting. Resource Accounting
controls all aspects of data collection and report generation, provides
extensive error checking, and continuously monitors the system. All collected
data is stored in log files for extraction and can be accessed immediately.
Reports can be generated for any information already collected without
re-running the system.
Unisolutions UNISOL JobAcct
JobAcct performs "actual cost" accounting and chargeback by user, group,
project, and project group, or "proportional" chargeback on a project/
department level. Charges are itemized by connect time, disk usage,
cpu usage, memory usage, total I/O operations, printer usage, miscellaneous
charges, and network I/O operations. JobAcct features include: centralized
accounting reports for remote systems; felxible report formats; ability
to generate ASCII data; variable rate schedules and rate strucures; allows
separate accounting periods for each user, group, chargeback number or
charge group account budgeting.
Archival
Advanced Software Concepts NetArchive *
NetArchive is a network-based hierarchical stroage management, file-
migration, and archiving system designed for heterogeneous computing
environments. NetArchive reduces the need for more costly disk storage
devices as the free space on a disk is used. By moving targeted files
to less expensive storage, the local disks are left available for
storage of needed date. Anytime a migrated file is needed, NetArchive
automatically and transparently restores the migrated file from the
storage vault. By using NetArchive, the administrator is relieved of the
tedious task of manually moving files from disk to backup media, and
back to disk when the file is once again needed.
Computer Associates CA-UNICENTER
ASM addresses the extended data and media management requirements of the
complete data life cycle, including backup, archive, restore, transparent
restore, recovery, movement, maintenance, retention and monitoring. The
full-functioned Storage Management facilities of CA-UNICENTER are implemented
using relational technology, and provide media independent tools for file
system management, making common file system administration possible,
regardless of the storage medium on which the file resides.
Epoch Systems EpochServ*, EpochMigration*, EpochBackup*
EpochServ is the platform on which client-based applications,
EpochMigration and EpochBackup, provide enterprise-wide file migration
and backup and recovery. EpochBackup software automatically backs up
and restores files throughout the enterprise in heterogeneous environments
to an enterprise-wide EpochServ based system. EpochBackup provides
mainframe-class features, including an intelligent auto-scheduler,
robotics and volume management, monitoring, reporting, on-line backups,
and self-service recovery. EpochBackup is tightly integrated with
Epoch Migration and EpochServ softwre for a complete client/server
data management solution.
Hi-Comp HiBars
HiBars serves as the backup manager which controls and oversees the
operations of HiBack (see below) on each system. Within HiBars, you
configure all the nodes and storage devices available and decide what is
to be backed up, when it should be backed up, and to which devices in the
network.
NETStor NetStor Family *
The NETstor family offers a wide range of hierarchical, on-line storage
solutions to meet the needs of users in a variety of configurations.
NETsotre systems optimize the use of valuable storage resources by
automatically and dynamically assigning data to the most efficient
storage media. NETstor software manages your data transparently
and automatically as a file system, rather than as a device.
OpenVision OpenV*Archive*
ArchiveSQL allows you to organize, manage, and allocate your storage media
and devices using advanced techniques commonly found only in mainframe
environments. ArchiveSQL supports unattended archiving, backup, and
retrieval operations. ArchiveSQL lets you implement automated data storage
migration between disks, tapes, optical jukeboxes, and robotic storage
devices. ArchiveSQL is rich with numerous advanced features such as:
an on-line media and data librarian, automated scheduling and device
management, unattended operations, data compression and encryption,
distributed network operations, a comprehensive on-line catalog and
an application programming interface.
OpenVision OpenV*Migrator*
OpenV*Migrator is an open systems storage management product that allows
you to transparently migrate, purge, and cache files between Unix file
systems. Because the two file systems are presented to the user as
a single file system, OpenV*Migrator provides a completely transparent
extension of your local file system into a storage system that can
be either some multiple of your local capacity.
QStar MasstorMind*
MasstorMind consolidates multiple storage technologies into a single,
integrated environment. Features include: automatic data migration,
automatic storage amplification, continuous backup, volume management,
on-disk format, and disaster prevention and recovery.
Backup
Adstar, an IBM Subsidiary Distributed Storage Manager*
The Adstar Distributed Storage Manager is an automated, highly reliable,
high-performance network-based backup and archive product for workstations
and LAN file servers. Distributed Storage Manager is designed to promote data
availability, storage management, and data access across heterogeneous
network environments. The Adstart Distributed Storage Manager consists
of an MVS or VM-based backup /archive server, and backup-clients for
HP-UX, DOS, OS/2, AIX, Microsoft Windows, Apple MacIntosh, Sun OS, and Novell.
Delta Microsystems BudTool
BudTool is a window-based utility for performing automatic network backups
and for maintaining tape libraries. After a one-time setup procedure,
BudTool can perform backups for an entire year, automatically.
Hi-Comp HiBack
HiBack is a software product which allows for high speed, unattended backup
of multiple platforms including HP/MPE, HP-UX, DOS, AIX, Ultrix, SUN,
Domain, ATT, Silicon Graphics and other Unix platforms. Additionally,
HiBack supports all standard storage devices and optical autochangers by
allowing the user to append, random access search for restore, run
multiple jobs simultaneously, archive from M/O to serial media and set up
groups of media MO surfaces within the autochanger.
Innovus Networker (formerly Legato systems)*
